Tampa Police Hoping Music Tribute Will Bring Clues to Murder

TAMPA, Fla (970 WFLA)-Tampa Police homicide detectives and the mother of 17-year-old Levi Dixon Jr. are hoping a locally produced song will urge the public to come forward with information on the teen singer's death.

AJ Crawford, who goes by the stage name Young AJ, wrote "Dear Lee" to pay homage to his longtime friend and fellow musician. The tribute video features a studio performance from Dixon Jr. a year before he was shot and killed inside of a West Tampa home on July 27, 2008. Crawford wrote the song as a way of coping with Dixon Jr.'s unsolved murder and to also speak out against violence. He will reach out to his state-wide fan base to promote the two-minute clip. The Tampa Police Department will also share the video using its social media sites.

Detectives are working diligently to identify and arrest the suspect(s) responsible for Dixon Jr.'s death. They are confident that there are individuals in the community who have crucial information that can lead to an arrest and help give some closure to Dixon Jr.'s family and friends.

Anyone with details regarding this case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS (8477) or via its Text-a-Tip line by simply typing the keyword "CSTB" followed by the tip to 274637. Tips received through Crime Stoppers are ANONYMOUS and can be eligible for up to $1,000 in cash if the information leads to an arrest.
