Tampa city council votes to keep red light cameras after all

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – The Tampa city council just voted six to one to renew the contract for the red light cameras in the city after all.

The council supported a resolution made by Mayor Bob Buckhorn that would place 25 percent of ticket revenue toward intersection improvements for the next two years.

Last month, the council voted four to three not to renew the contract with the company that provides the cameras. The cameras have been in the city since April 2011. There are 51 active red light cameras in 21 intersections.
