ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA.com) - The red light camera issue has reared its ugly head in front of St. Petersburg City Council.
Councilman Wengay Newton is now calling for the city to refund any revenue it received from red light ordinance citations.
"It has come to my attention that we have numerous, up in the thousands, of law-abiding citizens receiving red light camera violations, ordinance violations beyond any of their control," Newton told fellow council members.
Newton pointed at possible outdated or malfunctioning equipment at those camera equipped intersections. The city's transportation and parking director, Joe Kubicki, says there is no evidence that's the case.
