Pasco arrest uncovers large identity theft scheme

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The Pasco County Sheriff's Office has completed going through the mail recovered from a car driven by 30 year old Brian Michael Chipman earlier this week.

They've recovered approximately 3000 pieces of stolen mail and identified more than 900 victims, deputies said. Detectives are are working with surrounding law enforcement agencies to provide them with information relevant to the victim's within their jurisdiction. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is also combing through its incident reports looking for related cases, according to deputies. They believe Chipman was involved in check fraud, credit card fraud, tax fraud, and identity theft, PCSO said.

Chipman was arrested earlier this week after authorities said a Pasco detective observed Chipman's vehicle driving through the Gulf Harbors neighborhood of New Port Richey, stopping momentarily  in front of residences in a vehicle without lights on and the license plate removed. Detectives believe he was stealing from mailboxes, officials said.
